James Thompson

Councillor

What part of the village do you live in?

I live in Roundstone Lane.

What is your background?

Born in Leeds and raised across many counties of England, I finally settled in Brighton & Hove in 1984.  During a very difficult two  year period of unemployment 1990-1992 I retrained and worked as a Podiatrist, establishing my own practice in 2002.  I built up a successful business and have thoroughly enjoyed my professional career.  Following the Covid Pandemic and with 2 children having left home my wife and I decided to move away from Brighton.  We both fell in love with Angmering  and moved into our present home in February 2022.  Prior to June 2025 I held the positions of Youth Chair and Committee Member at Shoreham Football Club where I worked with others to develop youth football opportunities, introduced senior women's football and liaised with other stakeholders to bring plans forward for the redevelopment of the stadium and facilities

Why did you want to become a councillor?

I have been involved in the voluntary sector in a number of different capacities over many years.  Following our move to Angmering, I became aware of the impact on the character of the village caused by the many new housing developments in the parish.  This has resulted in significant pressure on our infrastructure and local services.   Having been involved in a campaign to resist housing development on prime agricultural land I was keen to take on a role which could protect and enhance the character and appearance of both our historical village and our countryside.

What do you hope to achieve in the area during your time as a councillor?

I will always advocate on behalf of Angmering residents and seek to enhance their enjoyment of our village life.  I hope I can offer different perspectives and stimulate discussion.  I will support my colleagues and work with them to improve and/or protect our village and the many events our Parish Council arranges.

What are your other interests?

I am very much a family man with a very patient and understanding wife.  Together we have 3 children and 4 adorable grandchildren with whom we like to spend as much time as possible.

I am a big football fan and have coached football for many years.  I enjoy the outdoors particularly walking and cycling on the South Downs and our coastal routes.  I enjoy riding motorbikes and time on water including paddleboard, kayak or sailing.  I just love life.
