Matthew Want

Councillor

What part of the village do you live in?

I live down Arundel Road, near St Margaret’s school.

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Shepperton, Surrey. Shortly after I was born, I was diagnosed with a rare illness called biliary atresia, because of this I ended up having two liver transplants. I have just recently left my job which I was at for over 10 years to start a Virtual Assistant company with my wife.

What made you become a councillor?

When I lived in Surrey, I had a vested interest in giving back to my community; this included being involved with my local Chamber of Commerce and organising a Christmas event that had over 8000 people attend. Also, in Surrey back in 2012, I ran for a local council by-election but sadly was unsuccessful. Back in 2018, I moved from Surrey to West Sussex.

Moving to Angmering has reignited my passion for getting involved with local goings-on. last year, at the end of 2021, I saw there was a Parish Councillor position available; when I saw this, I jumped on the opportunity to be involved as I wanted to start to give back to my community again.

What do you hope to achieve in the area during your time as a councillor?

As a Parish Councillor, I want to give back to the community and learn and realise what happens in depth around the village. It will be great to see planning applications in more detail and get a complete overview of the events taking place around the village. I will also look forward to connecting and getting to know more people in the village as time goes on.

What are your other interests?

In my spare time, I am a massive geek. I love everything Dr Who, Star Wars and Lego related.

I am part of a local men’s mental health charity, MenWalkTalk.

I can usually be found at the beach, walking our dog, or reading, a relatively new but passionate hobby.
