Fred Rowley was born in 1936 and died 78 years later in 2014. After training as a mechanical engineering apprentice with Cadbury’s in Bourneville his career as an engineer and company director took him to various UK locations plus Ghana in West Africa. Then in the mid-1980s Fred and his wife Jane moved to Angmering.
Fred was never very good at sitting still, loved meeting and helping people so volunteering was something he did all his adult life. Fred volunteered in a number of roles including singing and helping out with local choirs such as the Arun Choral Society. He also served as a magistrate sitting on the Chichester Bench for many years.

But Angmering Village Hall was where Fred found his niche. He was Treasurer of the Village Hall Committee and took great satisfaction from employing his considerable technical skills maintaining and upgrading the Hall.

Fred would be pleased to know that an award has been set up in his name to recognise those people and organisations who make a difference in the community he was a part of for so long.

The award was created in 2015 and has been used to recognise the valuable contribution residents have made to the village.
